Nuts and Bolts of Science Integration
Monday February 24, 2025 8:00am - 8:50am CST
Gear up to learn how to integrate science across the curriculum. Kindergarten through 3rd-grade educators will explore how science resources can be integrated into their reading and writing programs. We will explore multiple instructional strategies that accelerate learning for all students. We will also dive into how AMSTI can help teachers incorporate more science into their classrooms.

Teaching New Dogs Old Tricks: Using Dichotomous Keys to Teach Critical Thinking Skills
Monday February 24, 2025 10:00am - 10:50am CST
Although organismal biology receives less attention in science classrooms, it can help establish a strong scientific foundation as well as critical research skills. Dichotomous keys are integral tools to identify species, and this session will cover an exercise where students build dichotomous keys of prehistoric shark species from fossilized teeth.

Don't Believe Everything You Believe
Monday February 24, 2025 11:00am - 11:50am CST
The abundance of misinformation demands that educators help students differentiate between tested truths and falsehoods. Generation Skeptics curriculum teaches students the importance of substantiating claims with evidence. Check out our free lessons and opportunities for educators to make $500 stipends starting GenSkeps clubs or after-school programs. www.generationskeptics.org

Inspiring Future Engineers: Leveraging Student Motivations in STEM Curriculum
Monday February 24, 2025 2:00pm - 2:50pm CST
High school students, especially from underrepresented backgrounds, seek meaningful careers. Therefore, STEM activities that align with their values can boost interest in engineering. Engineering researchers and educators co-developed science labs for rural high schools to broaden participation in engineering by addressing the diverse motivations of Generation Z students.

Xplorlabs: How do fire sprinklers work?
Monday February 24, 2025 3:00pm - 3:50pm CST
Look up at the ceiling when you’re at the grocery store, your school, or offices. What will you often see? Fire sprinklers! What role do fire sprinklers have in engineering and designing fire-safe spaces. In this workshop we evaluate the structure and function of a fire sprinkler to understand what can make the bulb break and how a system of fire sprinklers work to limit the impact of fire.
